“No Candidate in any Democratic Country can get more than 40% of Votes.”

Presidential Candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan, of the National Self-Determination Union, recently criticized a sociologist for his “non-scientific” poll. The poll asked 1000 hayastanci who they would vote for, with a whopping 73.1% saying they’d vote for Sargsyan. Hayrikyan criticizes the pollster for making Armenia look non-democratic and the authorities as authoritarian. While I won’t necessarily agree with his exact number, I support the idea and I love his quote:

“Experts fawning upon the authorities fail to consider an important fact. Election cannot be called an election, and a state is not a democratic one if one of the candidates, especially the one in power at the moment, receives more than 40% of votes.”
